Winemaking notes
With a rare depth and minerality bestowed by its uniquely long finish in Bual Madeira casks, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1993 is the third release in our exclusive Vintage Collection, Bond House No. 1. The year it was distilled, we established a pioneering sensory laboratory to bring a new rigour to our whisky creation. In this 25-year-old whisky, available exclusively in Travel Retail and at the Distillery’s visitor centre, that commitment to discipline is gloriously borne out. Pored over and perfected, its spirit was first aged in ex-bourbon casks for a decade. Then, selecting one superior parcel, we began to explore the oxidised influence of Bual Madeira casks, while still honouring the single malt’s elegant style. After a 15-year finish in those casks, far longer than once thought possible, this singular expression achieved the full, flinty intensity that we sought.
Tasting notes
Fruity and subtly smoky, with hints of candied orange peel and wood fires. Then mint toffee, sultanas and a suggestion of vine-ripened tomatoes, give way to a rare minerality and Glenmorangie’s classic fruit notes. A rich, spicy mouthfeel brings tastes of ripe peaches, apricots, melon and baked pears, laced with vanilla custard, cocoa powder and nutmeg’s gentle spice. Sweet and lingering, with notes of honey and mead entwined with milk chocolate and sugared plums.
