Winemaking notes
An atypically dry year, spring was slightly hotter than usual and this was reflected in flowering occurring at the end of May. The harvest took place between September and October when temperatures were higher than normal and there was below average rainfall. A rainy end to the year partially replenished the water reserves in the soil.Touriga Nacional grapes were harvested from three different plots, which were vinified separately. The grapes were unloaded from 20kg boxes and sorted before they were subject to destemming and soft-crushing in 5000kg stainless steel tanks. Here, alcoholic fermentation took place for around 10 days at an average temperature of around 27ºC. Part of the Touriga Nacional underwent post-fermentative maceration for a further 8 days.
Tasting notes
A ruby-red colour, this wine is intense, complex and elegant and has an aroma typical of the grape variety; notes of wild black fruit and floral nuances alongside shrubby forestal tones that add freshness. Well-integrated notes of wood confer further complexity. On the palate, it is harmonious and balanced with smooth yet firm tannins, which provide structure to the wine. Additional notes of forest floor and fruit invite a long finish.
Pairing notes
Serve at 15-16ºC. This wine should be decanted after 4/5 years of age. Use large wine glasses. ENJOY A fantastic table wine that is also exceptionally versatile. Pairs wonderfully with octopus "à lagareiro", as well as peppered beef.
