Winemaking notes
Partial whole-cluster harvest. Maceration lasts around 25 days, allowing for optimal extraction of tannins and color compounds. After malolactic fermentation is complete, 60% of the wine is aged in 228-liter Burgundy barrels (used for 1 to 3 vintages), while the remaining portion is kept in tanks. The different lots are then blended before bottling, which takes place approximately 16 months after the harvest. Once bottled, the wines rest for several months in our cellars before any shipment.
Viticultural notes
The parcels used to produce this wine are mainly located on mid-slopes, within the limestone scree of the Dentelles de Montmirail. These plots benefit from a cooler climate than those on the plains of the appellation, leading to slower ripening and good acidity. Harvesting is done by hand, allowing for precise selection of the grapes.
Tasting notes
Our Gigondas Rouge can be enjoyed from the second year, revealing dominant notes of red fruits, garrigue, and spices, but it also has excellent ageing potential of 8 to 10 years. It pairs beautifully with red meats, game, or aged cow’s milk cheeses.
