Winemaking notes
Produced only in the best years, Cristal is composed of Grand Crus selected grapes from the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. 60 % is of Chardonnay and 40 % from Pinot Noir is made in the classic Traditional Method. 20 % is vinified in oak casks and 20 % goes through Malolactic Fermentation. The wine is generally aged for 6 years, sometimes longer, in cellars and left for a minimum of 8 months after disgorging. Originally created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II Russia. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the House’s best cuvée for him every year. He was particularly fond of the House’s wine. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. The new brand was named after this precious material, 'Cristal', which is particularly transparent and luminous.
Viticultural notes
Harvested from the famous Grand Crus selected sites of the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. The approach to vineyard management is bio-dynamic at every stage.
Tasting notes
Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively effervescence. A complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, pear, pollen and toasted almonds. The delicately seductive bouquet shows depth with a well-honed precision.
Pairing notes
Not just a celebration wine. This remarkable Champagne is perfect with white fish and white meats.
