Winemaking notes
The original recipe for Old Sam Demerara Rum stretches back to 1797 when Edward Young & Co. imported their rum from Guyana and brought the first barrels marked ‘Old Sam’ to London, England. It is a very unique blend of Demerara Rums; one of the marques is produced on the world’s last operating wooden coffee still which is then aged for at least 15 months.
Viticultural notes
Since 1999 Old Sam Rum has travelled from Guyana to Newfoundland where it is blended and bottled. A tropical paradise, known for waterfalls, jaguars and beaches. It’s also the home of Demerara county which is known for rum. With a tradition of quality over 300 years old, Demerara Rum is rich, dark and flavorful, suitable for mixing or enjoying straight.
Tasting notes
A deep, dark, rich rum with prominent notes of brown sugar, coffee, tobacco and oak, punctuated with notes of died fruits, nuts and baking spices.
Pairing notes
Aged rum benefits from a but of water or one or two ice cubes to really develop its best flavor. Try it in a Rum Old Fashioned or a classic Rum and Coke.
