Winemaking notes
Unlike Bourbon or Rye, which, by definition, must be aged in new oak barrels. Unblended American Whiskey is aged in a way that utilizes whiskey-soaked barrels to achieve a rich and unique flavor profile. As such, this expression cannot be called bourbon, as bourbon needs to be matured in new American oak barrels. The word "unblended" refers to the fact that it does not contain neutral grain spirit.
Viticultural notes
Michter's has three locations in Kentucky - a 78,000 square foot distillery in the Shively section of Louisville, the architecturally significant Fort Nelson Building on Louisville's Museum Row and 145 acres of farm land in Springfield.
Tasting notes
This whiskey is butter-soft, loaded with sweet toffee and flavourful aromas of hazelnut. The long finish rolls toward dry espresso and mocha flavors, pepped up with clove and cinnamon.
Pairing notes
Lovely on its own, on the rocks or in a classic cocktail such as an Old Fashioned or Rob Roy.
