MachiavelliAmong the Gruppo Italiano Vini's most prestigious properties two names closely identified with Tuscan wine making have seen their history intertwined since the 15th century. These are Macchiavelli and Conti Serristori. Four centuries ago, the noble Serristori family of Florence became owners by marriage of the vines and olive trees of the Macchiavelli family located in San Andrea in Percussina, a charming village just outside Florence. This property was made up of the cellars, the inn where Niccolo Macchiavelli played cards with his friends and the manor house where the Florentine secretary worked during his long years of exile. An exile that was particularly productive because it was used to write his principal works while, at the same time, managing the production of his vineyards which produced a good wine, the Vermiglio (considered to be the predecessor of Chianti) as well as olive oil and honey. Today, Conti Serristori is a large company devoted to the production of typically Tuscan wines such as the Chianti Classico "Villa Primavera", the "L'Albergaccio del Poggio", a red wine from San Andrea, "La Vela", a white wine from the Tuscan hills and a Vernaccia di San Gimiano. All are wines of the highest quality, produced according to tradition, starting with the attentive care of the vines and knowledgable winemaking directed by oenologist Nunzio Capurso. However, the most precious part of the property is, without any doubt, "L'Antica Fattoria Niccolo Macchiavelli" whose production is distinguished from that of Serristori by its very high position in the range. Here are created the precious Chianti Classico Riserva "Vigna di Fontanelle", the highly perfumed "Vinsanto Naturale Toscano" and the Fontanelle extra virgin olive oil. It is a 60 hectare property of which 26.51 is in vines. Production is 2.5 million bottles of which one million are exported.Machiavelli in Quebec Machiavelli in Ontario |
